Forms
Forms help you grow your email contact list to help you drive your marketing strategy. They help you capture your visitors’ email address for use in various email campaigns and drive newsletter sign-ups to prompt visitors to visit your site and content.
Managing Forms
The Forms page is located in the Create Offer section of the admin page. When you enter the Forms page, you will notice that it is divided into two tabs: Forms, and Mailing List. Mailing lists are used in forms as “storage”, where users who sign up in the forms you create are then stored in the mailing lists. The best approach to setting up forms is to first create a mailing list and then continue with setting up the form.
Creating a Mailing List
In order to create a mailing list, go to the Mailing List tab and click the Add Mailing List button. After clicking it, you will be redirected to a new page. When creating the mailing list you will need to provide the following information:
Name: Provide a mailing list name of your choosing. This should be representative of the contact list users will be added to for use in email campaigns.
ID: Provide an optional ID as a further identifier for your mailing list for your internal use.
Description: You can provide an optional description for this mailing list specifying the purpose of the list or any other descriptive information for internal use.
Metadata: Append metadata to your mailing list to add additional information to the mailing list.
Once a mailing list has been appended to a form which has been used as part of an active offer and campaign, you can start to see users being added to the mailing list when they sign-up. On the mailing list view you will be able to view all users who have signed-up, including their email address and the signed-up date. To use these emails in various marketing campaigns you can export the list of users in a csv file which can be uploaded to your mailing service provider for use in campaigns. The Export option also allows you to select a custom date range for exporting users based on their signed-up date. You are also able to individually copy a user's email address to the clipboard for use in third-party services and remove a user from the mailing list.
Since marketing campaigns are created and run on a third-party service, Tonos does not manage the mailing list outside of adding user’s email addresses to the list upon signup via campaigns created in Tonos. So, for example, when a user unsubscribes from your campaign, that user will not be automatically deleted from the mailing list. However, you will have the option to do so manually to keep your mailing list clean.
Creating a Form
Having created a mailing list, you are now ready to create your first form so that users can sign up to that mailing list. In order to create a form, go to the Forms tab and click the Add Form button. After clicking it, you will be redirected to a new page. When creating a form you will need to provide the following information:
Name: Provide a form name of your choosing. This should be representative of the intended use of the form.
ID: Provide an optional ID as a further identifier for your form for your internal use.
Description: You can provide an optional description of the form specifying the purpose of the form, for example drive signups to your Sports Newsletter and any other descriptive information for internal use.
Mailing List: The dropdown displays all the mailing lists that you have created. You can select more than one mailing list so that when users sign-up to a form they are added to the mailing list. This is typically used to drive sign-ups to multiple related newsletters. Please note that this is required before creating a form as the mailing list is where the users will be added to upon sign-up.
Metadata: Append metadata to your form to add additional information to the form.
Policies: This section allows you to create your own custom policies that visitors must agree to when signing up for a form. You also have the option of making your policies as checkboxes that your customers have to select, or plain text that they can view.
Setting up a campaign to drive sign-ups
To set up a campaign to drive sign-ups you first need to create an offer inviting users to sign up to the form. When creating an offer, under Properties, click on ‘Select Form to include’ to add a form you have created to your offer. It is not necessary nor required to select a checkout flow as users will not be funneled through a checkout process. Similar to regular offers, an offer containing a Form can be styled using the template builder. Additionally you are able to select the offer template type which can be either a modal or inline. You can choose to create a paywall with a form by leaving the ‘Allow users to close modal’ option unchecked, prompting users to sign-up to unlock a piece of content. Alternatively, allowing users to close the modal allows users to navigate to your content even if they choose not to sign-up.
After creating an offer containing the form, create a campaign by including this offer and selecting the targeted pages where you want the form to be displayed. Logged-in users who sign-up to the form will not view the offer inviting them to sign-up again. Upon sign-up the user will be added to the respective mailing list.
